Malnutrition Combat. Malnutrition among children is a distressing problem and one of the worst maladies in India. Even if there is no actual famine, the poor quality of available foodstuffs results in chronic malnutrition. The Spirulina Production Research and Training Centre deals with programmes aimed at reducing malnutrition and with spirulina related activities (training programmes, e.g. trainings about spirulina cultivation, clinical investigations etc.).
Green Scapes - Garden Landscaping. Medicinal herbs are grown by Antenna Trust to facilitate the revival of traditional health practices. Ornamental plant varieties are also grown to landscape gardens in government offices / private houses / factories. The profit accrued from these activities is spent on programmes aimed at combating malnutrition in children. Courses in nutrition and health are organized for women. They learn the importance of a balanced diet, the advantages of adding spirulina to meals or to weaning pap and to grow nourishing plants.
Micro Credit Programme (MCP). Recycling available resources in the interests of the resource-scarce people: The threat of chronic indebtedness, loss of means of production or even bondage has always loomed large over the rural poor due to the usurious and exploitative lending practices prevalent in rural areas. The poor had no access to small loans at reasonable rates of interest either from the banks or from the mainstream financial institutions. In times of crisis, the poor usually borrowed from the local moneylenders and fulfilled their emergency needs (e.g. provision for food, medical expenses etc.). They never usually get out of the dept-trap. Today, this problem is addressed through the promotion of self-help groups. They are initiated into a programme of micro credit. This has helped the rural women in freeing themselves from the clutches of the moneylenders.
